What MX records do
- What it is
MX records tell the world which servers receive email for your domain.
- Why it matters
Sending servers read your MX list and deliver to the lowest-preference server that answers.
- Without it
Without MX records, your domain simply cannot receive email — messages bounce.
What we check
- Every MX record for the domain, sorted by preference
- Which mailbox provider handles incoming mail
- Whether the domain can receive email at all
Common questions
What does the preference number mean?
Lower is preferred. Sending servers try the lowest-preference MX first, and fall back to higher ones if it's unavailable.
Do MX records affect sending?
No — MX only governs where incoming mail is delivered. Your sending setup is governed by SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
